Agreed. Start high so when the low offers come in meeting in the middle is closer to what it is actually worth.

Contrary to popular belief, a lowball offer isn't dictated by an asking price. If I lowball someone, it's because I'm trying to pay under the VALUE of the bike. I could give 2 what someone is asking in order to come up with an offer. The bike is worth 3500'ish (generous). Whether he's asking $4k or $8, I'm still offering the guy $2k. However, this is all hypothetical because I wouldn't care to buy it in the first place.

Only a rookie would make an offer over the phone after seeing some pictures. Those are the guys that end up paying $4500 for a bike like that rashed up gsxr and think they paid a "fair" price.
