SHNF "WORK DAY" 8/23/14

TRH (Trail Riders of Houston) and ODODB (Old Dudes on Dirt Bikes) are joining together to have a work day to clean the east side trails in the SHNF. If you like riding the SHNF we encouage you to come out and help us in getting the trails on the east side ridable again. We have already cleaned some, but a lot of work is needed to get them all in good shape. So if you can, please schedule a day out of your busy life and come out and join us in this effort.

Bring a machete, loopers, cutters or whatever you have to cut away branches, limbs, overgrown weeds, etc from the trails. Chainsaws are needed but you have to be certified to use them in the forest.

8/23/14 Saturday @ 7:30am EAST SIDE TRAILHEAD off fs233, about a mile past the Gulf Coast Trade Center. GCTC road is located off 1375 about a mile or 2 just west of the SHNF ranger station.

Hope some of the MOTOHOUSTON members can make this, we need the help.

If you have never been to the forest this is a nice tame way to see what it is all about.

I did one of these before I ever rode in the forest and I am glad I did. I learned a lot and was ready for a real ride through the forest later.

Larry, is OHV decal needed for members of the trail clearing team? I have one but wanted to make sure for others if it is required.

Hail is right....it is a great way to see what it is all about, get aquianted with certain areas and meet some ppl who enjoy riding these gnarly freaking trails!!

An OHV sticker and spark arrestor will be required if you are going to ride your bike in the forest, the Park Rangers will likely not be there like last time but there are no exceptions to the rule.

I have to work this weekend so I am going to have to sit this one out but I cant wait to get back out to the forest....its been too long

oh and dont forget the TRH club will be cooking Fajitas and have drinks for lunch at the trail head

And Byrdman is right, great way to see the forest first hand and meet lots of guys that love to ride dirt. You'll be very surprised how friendly and easy going all these guys are.

Hail===EAST SIDE trail head is located between lake Conroe and I-45 at New Waverly off hwy 1375. From I-45, exit hwy 1375 , New Waverly, head west and about a mile or so past the SHNF ranger station (on your right) will be the GULF COAST TRADE CENTER road going north, Trade Center road is paved to the trade center then turns to dirt, go past the trade center about a mile or so and parking area is the first thing you come to on the left.

Hail, FYI==last time I rode with you guys was at the NW trailhead off 1791 and 208, this ones at the east side trail head near the ranger station off 1375, much closer to I-45.

Thanks Hail for coming out in this heat and working trails with us today, had 25-30 guys show up and we made a great impact on cleaning the trail for all riders. East side is going to be a fun place to ride again. TRH is going to go out again tomorrow morning and try and finish the last cleanup we couldn't get to today on the east side.

If any MotoHouston members are interested in helping, we will be working the WEST side middle of next month. Lots of down trees on that side also, as you well know if you've ridden it lately.

Larry
