R6 as a starter? Be careful with that.

Gear the up!!! don't be cheap about it. Come to the track as soon as you start to became comfortable with your bike to learn skills.
Here at the forum there is a "give a take" thread for free gear to help people get started.

Gear is not very expensive. I paid just under a grand for very nice street gear (helmet, jacket, gloves, boots--still need pants). When you think about what just a few stitches in the ER cost, it makes financial sense to gear up. Let alone the obvious benefit of being more safe. Make sure you like your gear. Spending the extra coin will get you equipment that is more stylish and comfortable and you'll be much more likely to wear it. Which you should always, always do.

Motorcycles Unlimited keeps a few Joe Rocket jackets in stock, 45 @ 1960. Worth getting to know them.
