So are you going to restore it? If you need parts? Classic Cycle has reproductions of gaskets, seals, etc. since Yamaha doesn't like to keep parts inventory anymore. I did a Yamaha Vision a few years back that was a bit younger, still felt the pain of trying to locate discontinued parts.

See my avatar. I built an '82 heritage into a street tracker. I would recommend either the street tracker or the cafe racer look.
The reason is that you are not really modifying the bike so much that it can't ever be restored. If you have questions PM me I'll be glad to help where I can. Also as suggested earlier look at Omar's dirt track racing website. They have everything you need, of good quality and reasonable price.
Don't let the site name fool ya' they aren't really about dirt track racing so much as street conversions, mostly for XS 650s.

Another valuable site is MIKE's xs they have almost every part you would ever need to restore or repair an old xs 650.
Including performance parts and big bore kits.

So a little history lesson on the bike.

Back in 80' my dad bought the bike from one of my brothers friends. They had recently moved from Louisiana and needed some money. My dad bought the bike for 50$. No title. The guys said it was in Louisiana. It never appeard. How would i go about getting the title? Should i get the title first thing?:confused1
