i have a feeling this will be a serious debate. I prefer night time myself because of the light traffic, but in reality you are more visible in the day time.

as i was riding home yesterday, it was starting to get dark and i was thinking of this very same thing.

obviously your visibility goes down substantially at night, thats the main problem, and then there are the drunks to contend with(of course there are drunks in daylight too), but the overall traffic is lighter at night.

its said that more fatal motorcycle wrecks happen at night, but how many of those riders had been drinking? i can remove that danger cause i dont drink and ride.

if cars are the single biggest danger to us, then the less of them on the roads the better, so that would say night riding.

as it starts heating up to 100 degrees, riding at night is going to be mighty tempting.

I "prefur" riding out in the burbs or just all out BFE so a must for daytime riding, too many critters out at night. At night i like to keep it to the highways and major well lit roads to avoid any animals.
have hit too many of them.
later

and its not as hot!!!

my headlight sucks though.. so my preference is:

night group rides on major streets (light up)

honestly, of the 6k on my street bike, Ownage put 2,500 or so on it. the 3,500 that I put on it is prolly 3k night and 500 day.

daytime only (I make an exception every now and then) as you are more visible and so are the obstacles we see daily....

Both have their ups and downs but lately, nights have been much nicer to ride. Less traffic, weather is PERFECT! Even though its dark, the skys are clear and the temperature is around 75-80 with a breeze instead of the humid 100 it has been in the daytime.

And like i said WAY LESS CAGERS!!

In Kerr Co. (and most of the HillCo) you can't even ride at night because of all the deer.

Pretty much a givin that if u are out there at night u WILL have a close call with deer.
Every couple of years someone dies out there from hitting a deer at night.

I don't even know how many deer/coons/oppossum/ I've hit-run over in my 12 years of driving.

I wouldn't even take the bike out at night in that part of the state.
