what planet was in the sky last night

saw a really bright "star" i figured it had to be a planet anyone know which on it is?? it was north west at around 9p.m..

I saw last night too. The planets usually look dull in color ... they don't twinkle like a star does. Mars is visible in the AM so it was either Jupiter or Venus. I think Jupiter is usually brighter than Venus so that was probably it.

On a good night you can see it's moons with a cheap telescope. Back in December 1999 I was able to see Saturn's rings with a $200 Walmart telescope. I was freezing my of in the middle of the night ... that's how I remember when it was.

+1 Venus is almost always the brightest thing in the sky other than the moon. it's a planet.



I "rewindedededed" my star program to 9pm last night and it shows Venus in about the area you were talking about.

Note: Polaris is the 'north star'.

It was Venus. Only planet visible in the sky at the time you mentioned.
