Going rate for gasoline $3.30 a gallon. Going rate for a kWh of electricity $.06-$.1. That's 33kwh for the same price as a gallon. That single gallon will get you about 50 miles on a good day? The 33kwh will get you about 200 miles? Of course it's going to cost you something and of course energy comes from somewhere, electricity is just a lot more efficient and currently much much cheaper.

The Zero DS will go a claimed 158 miles with the largest battery which is 14.2 kwh. It will probably use 17kwh to charge it.

More like the ability to load up and take a trip to Austin or Dallas when I feel like it. Or "charge my battery" in 3 minutes.

How often have you done that on your '08 CBR?

I have taken every bike I've ever owned to the hill country. Except dirt bikes.

Sometimes it takes 4 minutes to fill the battery though.

You rode to the Hill Country from Houston, or trailered?

I always rode it, saves on gas. You said this would be a commuter for you. The Zero S (12,999) has a range of 98 miles or 170 miles with a 4500 battery option. If the base Harley cost 20K with a 3000 dollar battery option, you are interested? Excluding any rebates.

Not really interested in any new bike for commuting as long as my HD is running. If I was going to spend that much money I'd buy a second CBR

Where does anyone assume its going to run from free? Thats sort of a given. Electricity is cheaper. Especially with the awesome solar panels coming out lately.

It's interesting that's for sure, the Range is a little..Small.. But still good for them, though it does kinda Irk me that they stop making the XR-1200 because it apparently doesn't "Sell" then go and make THIS and the new Liquid Cooled bike.. AGAIN it's cool and all but with some of the claims that the "XR1200" an the "Buells" took away from the Harley marketing, THIS is like a slap in the face.. and All I can say is "Really? You can afford to make an Electric Bike but not slap the Vrod Engine or another Engine in THAT frame.
