bit torrent is a form of file sharing (think napster) but BT isnt limited to MP3's... personaly i stay away from all public file sharing methods i dont need the RIAA looking in on my activities on the net or the posible virii

its not from a file sharing network, lol. the reason i was asking was the latest episode of PP was in bit torrent. it was thinking it was maybe a different "type" of file.

it is. has to be opened with a torrent program. the file has the info that the torrent program uses to download the original that you were looking for. what's pp?

The bit torrent IS a type of file, however it's only purpose is to connect you with others who are sharing the file you want.

So for example say you want PP (whatever that is) and it's an avi video. Somebody might post a PP.avi.torrent You download the .torrent file which is pretty small and open it your bit torrent client. The client then downloads PP.avi via P2P. You can then delete the .torrent file and watch the .avi.

Explaining it is more difficult than the 3 clicks it takes from start of download to watching the vid. lol

Torrents are a file type for distributed downloading. So, it is a file type and a file sharing network. This is how it is staying under the legal radar currently.
