A couple of questions.

1) How does it affects the recording area with this lens? is it reduced by a lot?

2) How difficult is it to do it? I've seen a couple of tutorials, but quite frankly didn't pay much attention.

1) view looks like a regular camera view
2) it was an easy mod to do, although I took extra time so I didn't screw up
3) I will have one of the other instructors video from their bike at the Fastline TD this
weekend

looking at the tech data, the original was 170 degree FOV and new lens is approximately 77, new video should show the results, i will post new and old for comparison if I can get some tech help from members, kinda electronically challenged on my part

With the GoPro Hero 2 and up you can select your FOV in the settings. Your options are W, M or N for Wide, Medium or Narrow.

This is not the same as using a lens adapter or new lens it simply uses less of the sensor. With the 3 and up its a none issue quality wise.

Personally I think you might find for track days you prefer the wide. You will lose some of the barrel distortion which you personally don't like but you will also lose a sense of speed because you will lose your point of references(the ground flying by). Kind of like how the bike magically feels slower when we look ahead and through the turn versus right in front of us. You also run a greater chance of missing something you want to capture.

Please post a video once you get a change to try it out.

^^^ this is true but I mainly changed out the lens to be able to video my grandson during Tae kwan do and other activities and the original lens just sucked at it. I still have another Hero1 for the track if it doesn't work, it will also be harder to set the position on the bike

This is for the Hero1 and is not permanent, you simply unscrew the lens and replace with the original, IR,zoom or NV without taking the camera apart

sorry for the delay, camera needed to be tilted higher but do to the mount on Dean's bike this was the best angle.
This is for the Hero1 only
