Sounds like the kick stand switch. It will start in neutral and shut off when you put it in gear.

Clutch sensor?

Ummmmmm.....maybe I missed something....but I'm gonna go with the obvious- clutch sensor? Should be a little connector with 2 small wires going into the clutch lever assembly. Comes loose all the time when I strap my GSX-R down to trailer it to the track. Keeps it from starting in gear, sometimes from starting all together. The clutch sensor on my Ducati hasn't worked since I put on the aftermarket levers about 6 months ago- the lever doesn't hit the sensor correctly. That bike hasn't started in gear ever since. I always have to put it into Neutral, but I live with it.

the bike starts in neutral because kickstand switches disallow starting the bike if it is in gear, turned off, kick stand's up and starter button is hit.

Or if the bike is on and kickstand is pulled down the kickstand switch will kill the bike. (doesnt sound like your problem)

When your bike is in neutral it doesnt matter if the kickstand is up or down, thats not how or when the kickstand switch is meant to kill the bike.

i am 9/10 positive its your kickstand switch, or the switch is fine and your kickstand is worn/warped and not making direct contact with the switch (like my bike)

1/10 says its your clutch switch. either way its something related to those two.
