Yea maybe I should just keep it and learn on it.

I guess its just the noob in me that says "if i get a 600 it will be easier to learn to lean into corners" and like that. The only thing I feel uncomfortable with on the R1 is turning at higher speeds, I feel like if I lean a little more the bike will slip out, and if I'm not feeling that, I feel the bike wobbeling in mid-turn so it kind of keeps me from working on my cornering.

Go to the track and pick your instructor's brain.

+1

You get to ride at your comfortable pace and slowly built confidence and ability. PLus you get to do it on the track where its way safer.

Here's a sound suggestion, take it for what it's worth. Park the R1 for a while- like a year or so (it would be hard, but not impossible). Get yourself a used bike that is smaller (like a 500 or 250, NOT a 600) that is cheap and reliable. You can pick these up for a couple grand, often times less(yeah, I heard the "I'm 20" thing, and money may be a big issue, but it's cheaper than hospital bills and rehab... or your life...). Learn to ride on that smaller bike first, and sell it for practically what you paid for it.

And quit eff'ing riding 180 on public roads!
I have a better idea...I'll buy a 250 and let him ride it for a year while I ride the R1. :icon_bigg

And like vfracer said, stop going 180. Just because the bike can do it, doesn't mean it has too.

lol alright guys

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep my baby, I really don't want to get rid of it anyway. I am trying hard to get to the track but that can be a pain. It means a lot to hear that I COULD be in that 1%, so thanks for that. I'll keep riding safe (minus the 180 that isn't too safe) and take it from there.

I love my R1, so hopefully we can all be happy :-) And ya'll want have to be saying, "you see....I told him so" :icon_smil

the 600's are so close to the 1000's that if you wanted a beginner bike then do as a few others have stated and go with a 250 or something

Forreal, why does everyone like goin so dayum fast on straights...I hate that shyt...Aaron can attest to this, I go about 70-75 on the straights, but like to push it in curves...folks need to slow down tho, heard of several people (including a Boxer) running into the back of cars because they were goin too fast in the straights...

Quicksaveme,
Keep the bike man, just take your time and NEVER do more than you are ABSOLUTELY comfortable doing. If that means catching the guys you are ridin with down the road, then don't hesitate to do it. Hopefully the guys you are with are not big enough to know you are new to ridin but still haulin ...if you need some folks to ride with...holler at myself, 1SMAR, A303, 1FastGSXR or a few others out here and I'm sure you'll have a beter, safer time...choose wisely, who it is you ride with...
