Fastest Production Bike: Electric

http://www.engadget.com/2014/05/20/l...bike-revealed/

Quote:
The Lightning LS-218 boasts a model number that actually means something. Back in 2012, a prototype of the electric bike clocked in a wholly unnecessary (yet much appreciated) 218mph, helping it to win at Pikes Peak and setting it up to become the world's fastest production motorcycle. The finished version is now ready to make good on that promise, having just been revealed at the Quail Motorsport Gathering in California, prior to a scheduled launch in the summer -- at which point it'll likely cost upwards of $38,000.

The bike has a much sharper look now, but the key specs are just the same, including a liquid-cooled 200-horsepower motor and a max range of 180 miles, depending on which battery option you choose. The weight of the battery causes it to be a heavy ride (225kg / 495 pounds) compared to some gas-powered superbikes out there, but what makes the Lightning stand out is the incredible torque (168 ft-lb) delivered by its gearless, direct drive internals. If you want to get a taste of what that feels like while blowing past someone on the highway, check out the video below at 3:10 -- you'll see a white sedan disappear into the background so quickly that you can barely identify the make.

$38,800 + TT&L = a $brazillian. I don't think we'll see Jay Leno riding one at Isle of Man, but he's one of the few that could afford it. . . ha

But that color alone slows it down at least 10 mph...... yuk

Looks like a blast. Him trying to talk and ride was hilarious though; didn't understand a word.

The motor reminded me of the sound the unseen force in the woods made in the original Evil Dead. eeeeaaahhhhheeeeeee!

What does a zx-14r do, 210? I have a feeling they used the smallest battery for the 218 top speed model.

I like the fact they didn't put a unneeded tranny on it.

He said it accelerates like a freight train.... I'm not sure he knows what a freight train is, the average freight train does 0-60 in 5 minutes. Personally I like my motorcycles to be a little bit faster than that.

Prett sure he's talking about the sheer amount of torque and power it has. Not the time it takes to get to 60.

"Accelerates like a freight train" means the acceleration is similar. "Has the power of a freight train" means the power is similar. I'm sure it was just a slip up, which I thought was funny so I pointed it out.

Also for fun a list of things I would compare to a freight train.

Handling of a 15 passenger van
Acceleration of a bus
Obligatory mom joke
