Not exactly a fair fight. They might be both naked V-twins, but they are designed with different rider demographics in mind. KTM is going after the ultimate streetfighter title. Ducati is aiming for what Monsters have always been known for - naked roadster. Not everybody wants the baddest and the mostest.

Anyhow, I like these comparos:

Nice bikes, rather have an s4rs with a slipper clutch anyday. Better looks, more usable power and less tech

Id almost agree, but the Monster has a 696/796 but they made this thing to compete with the SUper nakeds IMO.

Otherwise...why give it all these goodies?

This comparison is like comparing a Ferrari to an infinity g37. One is a sporty, sophisticated road car, the other is a serious surgical instrument.
The monster was never intended to be a scalpel. It's intended as a sporty but less aggressive kinda bike while still have the Ducati cache. As mentioned before the ktm is aimed at top dog, naked badassery.

If Ducati really wanted to heads with the TuonoV4R, S1000R and the SuperDuke, they would have started with the Panigale engine. They picked the kinder gentler Testastretta for a reason.

That's not to say Duc won't ever do it. My guess is a pair of Panigale-based Streetfighters are in the works to replace the current 848 and the already gone 1098.
