Could always be worse..

Holy . How can a day go so wrong, then so right, then soooooo wrong.
40 degree 3.5 hours of riding to gig in the middle of no where, TX. Gig is super easy setting up a stageline stage with a tent on top.

Gig is good. Gig is great. Time to get bake...er out of here.

Leave gig and town of 100 people, go 12 miles out of 15 down the road to next town to get gas, dr pepper, , wash gig dirt off, smoke, drive a TON UP the entire way back. Right at the sign that says 3 miles and I think "thank , I gota so bad"

BAMO! Bike dies.

Hour on side of the road in the sun, all black, with thermals; borrow gas from Mexican lady, doesn't help. Bike starts, the dies, then starts and idles, and then dies with gas, then wont start, then doesnt even turn on, then starts, then die.

Pull all my fuses and relays one by one. Check wiring connections. Determine I had a bad relay. Hmmm... I gots 3, one for the starter, need that, one for the fuel pump, need that, one for the ignition system....Rip apart relay and yup, burnt and wont engage but works when I manually engage it. No biggie, I'l just..., no zip tie, nothing at all to hold it closed except.... E Tape. E tape it. Bike Starts! Runs! Hop on down the road!

Relay gets hot, tape melts, bike dies. Every 20,15,10,5, miles for 60 miles till I get to Waco and get the last 2 at Advanced Auto. Replace, ride home.

5.5 Hours to go 160 miles... fun.

Fuel pump runs better now..lol.

You really didn't need the starter relay, you could have just bump started the bike.

All new relays in now and bike starts better, idles better, even smooth pull all the way to 6K with no 3.5-4k dip. Fuel pump hits the regulator cut off and changes tone almost instantly now instead of 3-4 seconds in. Doesn't vary with the idle any more either.Had to tweak idle a little as well.Rock solid idle. Second time in my life relays on fuel pumps have screwed me. From now on it's my first step in the diag process.

I even cursed, "I don't have to McGyver this with!!" Original plan was zip tie since we use them on gigs and had just left, I normally have one or two stuck in my pocket or tool bag. Not a one. Then I looked for something to wedge between the contacts. Ripped a pen clip apart, wouldn't work. Penny too big, nothing. E-tape was the last resort. I'm going to make a little jump wire and throw it under the seat along with an old spare relay.

Oh I agree. My neighbor sold his honda 250 and got an 1100 harley and I told him over and over we will never ride together again cause one of us will always be broken down. We've replaced starter, fuel cut off valve, leaking primary, rewired highlights, wired in a horn, moved and rewire ignition switch, brake switch, tranny oil, adjusted primary chain, adjusted clutch, front fork seals and boots. He's only had it 2 weeks! Plan is to keep the buell and get a cheap 4 banger to trash and save buella for the weekends.
