Small town mechanics...

Finally saved up a couple grand to fix up my ride over 8 months. Good recommended mechanic says he's 2 weeks behind now because everyone wants to ride in spring. S'all good.
5 weeks later I call HIM, he tells me he can't start work because the bike needs a new engine (he said earlier he can replace the engine case, guess he changed his mind), and I have to buy it myself. Mkay, got it to him in a week.

It's been 2 and a half months now, I call him twice a week and say I need my bike, to no avail - "yep, we'll get ya fixed up here at the end of the week" is what I heard 6 times so far.

I really want to tell him to take my seriously and do it right now or I'm taking my bike back, but I don't want to hurt his amateur feewings so he takes it out on my bike by doing a job. Besides, there's not really another shop in town that won't charge $200/h labor.

What do you do here? Would y'all ever have straight talks with your mechanics when they try to you over with a big smile on?

simple lesson to learn for ya:
You get what you pay for.

Sorry to say, at this point, you have no contract I am sure and he can pretty much do or say whatever he wants to do. Heck, if he wants to make fake invoices and say you owe and not paying, he can legally keep your ride.

Pick up your bike and take else where. Had a shop take 11 months to do what should have been a few weeks to a month. He is going to keep dragging you along telling you it will be done soon and yet never delivers. So get your bike, all the parts you paid for, thank him for his time and never walk into the shop again.

Every shop is busy this time of year! Having said that, go pick up your bike and find a REPUTABLE shop to do the work. You'd already be riding again if you had done that in the first place...

just an fyi...REPUTABLE shops do not charge 200/hour. I think Motorcycles Unlimited is around 85/hr??? HOP is probably close to that too. Don't quote me, but I know it ain't 200/hr.

No I'm in Lubbock - all the other shops here either don't take outside work, or quote me $4000 for engine case replacement, or claim they can weld the 4 inch hole in it ().
If I were in Houston it'd be Motorcycles Unlimited all the way.

Take your bike to Houston then. You already have all the needed parts so call and schedule a Motorcycles Unlimited appt and haul it here. Leave your haul rig and fly back to Lubbock. When all is finished in a week or so fly back and haul it home. Between gas for your haul rig and a r/t plane ticket you be ~$500 out of pocket. Not too bad considering what you're going through now. And that might be saved on the repair anyway from what you explain about the shops up there.
