Never been out there to the forest yet. Is the "east side" the more technical side? I want to make sure I hit the best/interesting/technical trails in the forest. I'd really like to go sometime during this week, let me know if anyone would like to meet me there. Anytime before Friday works.

Yes I'd love to ride this week. Off till friday and I need to get some riding in. I just don't want to hit unexplored areas by myself. I'll keep my eye out for a ride.

Mxrider14, give me a call on my cell about riding Thursday. I was planning on riding alone, but if you want to go, let me know

I'm riding Thursday morning. I know every inch of trails in the forest if you guys don't. Easiest loop to follow would be the Balloon Loop on the west side, but doesn't matter, whatever you guys want to ride is fine with me. Let me know what time y'all want to start, perfer about 8 or 9 so it's not too hot. East or West side, I can put together how ever long a route you feel like riding. Hours riding willl be determined by speed you ride and length of route.

Did some research on the regulations to ride the forest. I didn't know you have to get your sticker at a location other than Sam Houston, and a spark arrestor as well. I guess I still need to get some things sorted before trying to show up to ride LOL

Some of the local cycle dealers (cycle shack in Conroe, Honda of Houston used to)may sell the TP&W stickers, I usually just order mine from Austin though so not sure which/if they still do. Is your exhaust factory? If so may be ok, check for USFS approved stamp... If I recall the factory can on my exc was.

I've ridden the SHNF for over 30 years, never been checked once for sticker or spark arrestor, BUT they are required. Stickers are $15 or $18 at Cycle Shack North at Gladstell exit off I-45 in Conroe. Spark arrestor can be a screen type or if your silencer is stock EXC it probably already has one in it. If you want to ride tomorrow, would suggest buying the sticker on the way out and just ride. Rode my stock silencer without spark arrestor on my 350sxf for about 2 months before I bought my Jardine exhaust system. Your call mxrider14.

Byrdman, you coming out tomorrow?

OK guys, got a couple of guys coming from ODODB so have to set time and location. Going to meet at 9 am at the WEST SIDE trailhead located on Forest road 208 just north of FM1375.
If you're coming from I-45 cross over the lake, turn right on Stubblefield road, when the paved road turns to the right, go straight onto the dirt road, about quarter of a mile up the dirt road is the trailhead on the left side.
Let me know if you coming, and Ken go ahead and sign up on ODODB if your coming. out too.

We will probably ride the String and Balloon Loop unless all agree to change that.

mxrider14 and Byrdman, you guys want to ride?

I'm going to sit out for this one. I would feel a lot more comfortable with a sticker and spark arrestor.

Do you have a stock silencer on the KTM 525 EXC? If so, you have the spark arrestor already, stickers are only $15. I won't let you get lost either, promise....

Good ride today, sand was packed, cool temps, no dust, and it rained half way thru the ride for a little while...rained just enough to pack down all that loose sand, was worth it for sure to come in wet and not have to battle the sand all day. 3 of us went out, rode the string and came back in then rode the 10 mile loop which was surprisingly in good shape, we had cleaned the Honeymoon trail already, but looked like someone else cleared a lot of the rest and forestry service had done a burn on the north part of 1375 so that overgrowth wasn't bad.

Next thing we're doing is an ODODB work the trail day on the east side Saturday morning at 8:30am. So far we have 8 volunteers to clear trails on the east side, if you like to help, just show up with a machete or loppers and join us.
