So, are the upgrades worth the extra cost, or would the money be more effectively spent performing these types of mods after purchase of a non-SP bike?

How much does it cost to hand balance an engine?

Is the motor seriously hand-balanced?

Also... I just can't get behind the hideous silver frame/subframe.

From what I have seen at the track most people buy the regular model and put the suspension they want on it.

I've owned a 2012 CBR1000RR and to pay $17k for a 150 HP bike with no electronics seem a bit to steep!

Yeah, well they've really had no choice since this is the first year for the SP and there are not many out there

How so? It's the difference between a regular bike and one that has upgraded suspension brakes and other gadgets. He wanted to know if it was worth it or would your money be spent better doing it yourself. I gave my experience of what I noticed other people doing, which hopefully gives an example of rational behavior? When there is no right answer because there are too many subjective variables for the worth of the different items then experiences is all we can offer while the person has to decide for themselves what is better for them.

He wanted to know the difference in price if you built your own SP from a 2014 CBR. That's a pretty simple question to which you have no answer

Congrats man! An actual owner! Let me know how all the upgrades from the factory compare to the non SP CBR, and if they are worth the extra money. That was kind of the point I was trying to hit at. I love the reliability and durability of Japanese machines; but always wondered why only the Europeans use high end components on their bikes. I know Yamaha did it in 06 with the LE R1.

Here's what you get with the SP for $2700 over the CBR

Fully adjustable hlins front and rear suspension, Brembo front brakes and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC premium tires. A special lightweight subframe and a new-design rear single-seat cowl also shave weight. Plus, it features hand-selected engine parts for weight and balance, including pistons and connecting rods to improve track performance.
