Depends on what you're looking for. My understanding is that battery life is down about 30% over the larger model. If you do much touring (10+ hour days) and are interested in riding without a charging cord attached (no idea if it will operate while charging) the R is probably not the way to go.

I haven't done a lot of research into the R model, but as the battery is external to the module, I'm guessing you can't just pop it off the mount and throw it in a tank bag to charge while you eat lunch, like you can with the larger non-R model.

Let's get one thing straight – the "sporty" new SMH10R works very well. It does more or less what it says on the tin, and if I'd never tested the SMH10 I'd probably think it was the bee's knees. Looking at it in the Sena catalog, the R version looks cooler and sleeker and funkier than the SMH10, which looks rotund and dorky. But this test has more or less put them back to back, and the R version clearly compromises a lot of function in search of a racier form.

This one is for the wife's helmet, and she'll never do a 10 hr day or anywhere close.
Size and weight do matter in this case.

I was looking on the page and you can use it while it charges and you can stick the module to the helmet with velcrow and the wires just disconnect, it doesn't look as easy to take on and off as the non-r model but you can still do it.

And she will only be using it to listen to music, so all the other cool features are moot.

The one thing I haven't been able to figure out from the pictures is where the charging port is located... I would assume on the BT module, and if that's the case you'll have to pull both the module and the battery from wherever they're mounted (external mounting, no problem, but it sounds like a lot of people try to hide the battery in the liner) to charge off the helmet.

As I'm used to riding with earbuds, riding with a cord attached isn't really a dealbreaker for me. For that matter, I really don't know if the difference between 8 hours or 10 hours will really make a difference, unless I just forget to charge it, and when I do take long trips we tend to do some primitive camping, so end up having to charge everything on the bike anyway.

You can see all the connection points here

I probably wouldn't connect the charger on the bike unless I know im gunna be on the bike all day or touring anyway... 8 hours is still a fair amount of time for a bike ride...

Anyway if there's no deal on the "R" just put me down for the regular SMH10 Single with SMH-A0302

But idd really rather have the "R"

I don't remember reading it explicitly stated, so will the 10R be included as part of the group buy?
