You should try getting a loan from someone else that will let you buy used. Lots of credit unions will do that. Terrell is selling his for $4k. Has a brand spanking new big bore/stroker motor. Would cost $3k for you to build that motor. Way faster than a stocker.

I called an changed it from a vehicle loan to a personal loan. Let's see how it goes, since it is easier to get a vehicle loan from my CU than a personal loan

Truth. DRZs are nice but you will need a little more oomph to get the Hulk from point A to point B. Terrell's has about the most powerful DRZ motor you can build without sacrificing too much reliability. Motor is basically new and will cost half as much. All it will need is a heavier shock spring. Or if you want to spend $6k or $7k get a used KTM 690. Way nicer than a DRZ and just as reliable. New DRZs are just way too expensive for something you throw in the mud all the time.

I just want something that won't cost me $100 a week to fill up. I will just use it to commute back and forth to work. I don't want anything too fast as speed is what got me in trouble the last time,

It needs to be a dual sport or can be pure street? If I wanted a commuter bike to pour miles on a dual sport or a SUMO wouldn't be my choice. For a fun cheap commuter I would look at a CB500X at 1000 cheaper than a DRZ.

I would prefer dual sport so I can still jump a curb or two to get out of traffic with the occasional train track jumping.

That's the exact reason why I want/have one.

Loan=Devil
Another option
Fix this up and get a bonded title, then when you get the funds 17's...
