First Bike Hunting - But Hello All

Hi,

I live in Conroe and really excited to get my first bike.

Looking at something that isn't over powered but something I can grow in to also. Something easier to ride and handle. Don't want to be thrown off the back front or drop it coz of to much weight. Im 5'10" 150lbs. Reliability is also very important to me

So far i've looked at FZ6, SV650 and 650R.

Any other suggestions for the $2,000 to $4,000 range.

Thanks,

George

Welcome and all that funky jazz.

Riding a 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 650 abs I rolled off the show room floor.

I love this shizzit out of it. Glad I picked the one that felt the best between my legs... Similar to the line my wife has told me a time or two.

Is $2300 to much for a 2003 Suzuki SV650 with 17k that needs tires and has fairing damage?

also $3000 for 2006 FZ6 with 21k miles
comes with:
-Almost new Michelin tires
-Chain and oil recently services
-New quick adjust levers
-Comfort grips
-Touring screen
-Tank bag
-Bike cover
-Battery tender
-Service manual on cd
-Phone holder
-K&N lifetime air filter

Also found a 2004 FZ6 with 5k for $2700

The fz6 is going to be more powerful than the others you are looking at.. by a lot. It's something like 96HP. It's an excellent bike, I owned one, but it's in a diff category over the 650R, and the sv650 IMO. Get a brand spankin new ninja 300 if you gots 4k to blow.

Just my 0.02$

Also gives me spare cash in the budget for some extra riding classes. Better gear and some room to ad a few personal touches.

Or you can stay within your initial budget, and get a bike that looks good, and performs well. If you drop it.. you paid the exact same amount for a bike you would have purchased that someone else probably already dropped / ran the out of.

Also, on another note. Regardless of what anyone says I've owned 4 bikes, and i've never once dropped it. At the end of the day, dropping it or not, you have insurance, it's cheap on the 300, and well it's new. Spend the extra cash, get a bike that looks hella good, it's new, so if you do drop it, then YOU dropped it.

I think when your looking at a 4k bike, new or used... if you drop it or don't, the end result if the same. You paid 4k, and you got a bike. if you were wanting ( example ), an 11k R6, then yes, id see the point in getting a used one, for price, and / or the " dropping aspect ". but isn't that why we have insurance?

Look at it from the other side of things. What if you get the new bike, and don't drop it, then you have a nice new shiny bike ( even though everyone will tell you when, not if, but meh )

before i purchased my brand new fz6r, i had a 650R, I got it because i settled and wanted to spend less $$. At the end of the day, I kept looking at the fz6r and that's what I really wanted. If you get something you don't love, and are settling for it.. you WILL get rid of it, and you WILL buy what you want, it's just up to you to decide how soon that happens.

and.. by no means does that mean you love the 300. that was just an example ( although it is a pretty sexy bike )
