One of my coworkers lost his little girl yesterday. Please add them to you prayers.

Rest In Peace.

Girl, 4, dies after darting into traffic

By LINDSAY WISE
Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle

A 4-year-old girl died Tuesday afternoon after she ran from her mother's side directly into oncoming traffic on Houston's west side, police said.

Arianna Taylor was standing with her mother, Letonya Taylor, at the intersection of Richmond and Stoney Brook at 3:48 p.m. when the fatal accident happened, HPD Sgt. A.C. Francois said.

"Suddenly Arianna just darted across the intersection," said Francois, adding the mother and child were there to pick up the victim's two older siblings from the school bus. "She just slipped away from her mom."

At that moment, the 52-year-old driver of a sport utility vehicle traveling north on Stoney Brook entered the intersection with a green light, striking Arianna, Francois said. Everything happened so fast, the driver apparently had no time to avoid the girl, he said.

"The child actually ran into the car, and that was enough momentum to throw her onto the pavement backwards," Francois said.

Arianna was taken to Children's Hermann Memorial Hospital with head and neck injuries. She was pronounced dead about 4:45 p.m., Francois said.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the SUV, but the investigation is ongoing, he said.

Arianna celebrated her fourth birthday last month.

Oh my . One of the worst things that could happen to anyone, seeing your child die in front of you. I can only imagine what the mother is going through.

RIP

I can't even imagine how hard that must be for the parents - your children are supposed to outlive you. I hope they don't press charges against the person driving - that only adds insult to injury.
