Home-built trailer on CL- Good deal?

So I'm in the market for a small trailer for my GSXR600 trackbike. Been browsing around Craigslist for a few weeks- found one I'm gonna go take a look at in the morning. It looks.......unique. Looks like a converted small boat trailer, and looks in better shape than most of the other "homemade" trailers on CL, at least.

http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/4397117232.html

So, if it's in good shape, do you think it's a good deal, price-wise? I've tried looking around for comparisons, but just can't find anything quite like it. Sure there are all-aluminum trailers with diamond plate rock shields going for $2K-3K new, but nothing like this. Seems to be the only boat trailer-converted into a plywood Harley trailer in existence. What do you guys think?

Also, what is titling/licensing like for trailers in TX? How hard is it (if even necessary) to get tags for something like this?

tags necessary....stupid easy. and I think for a converted boat trailer that $750 is a little steep.

Tractor supply has a 5x8 with drop gate for 699 or a 4x7 for 599.

^This

It looks like a jet ski or john boat trailer. That air dam is going to put quite a bit of extra force on the tongue if you're pulling it with a car or small truck. I'd go for this:

http://www.harborfreight.com/1195-lb...els-90154.html

or this:

http://www.harborfreight.com/1720-lb...res-94564.html

with these:

http://www.harborfreight.com/motorcy...ock-97841.html

http://www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb...amp-69595.html

With a 25% off coupon, the trailer can be had for $270. You could really make multiple trips, use a 25% off coupon each time and save a ton of money. I'm seriously considering buying the heavier duty trailer and decking it with 2x6's instead of plywood. It'll be heavier but will last longer.

Northern Tool does, too. Same prices, I think.

You will win the prize for ugly…

...no way would I pay any where near that much for that trailer. If you are patient you should be able to get a decent hm trailer for <500$.

That thing is junk. This is a good trailer. Brand new and less than that junk on CL.

That trailer looks rediculous! Actually looks very narrow and short which would make it unstable-sway at speed. And that huge air dam wont make it any better!

Plenty of used utility trailer for sale on CL or get one like the posts above.

Or save a few bucks and get this one. Not ideal for 2 bikes but would be great for just the one. It's a 4x6, no wooden deck, and no ramp built on.

Your HHR would have a tough time pulling the one you posted. What byrdman said, that thing would have some hellacious wind resistance.

Josh- I have an 02 Ford Explorer now- not particularly powerful, but much better than the HHR for towing- I think it's rated for somewhere around 4,000-5,000lb. The trailers I've been renting have been 5x10s, wooden deck, look like the Tractor Supply ones above- it's done OK with those so far, and for the same price, looks like a much better deal! There's a 5X10 at a trailer place on the island, but they're asking like $1350 for it, used.

And yeah, you're probably right about the wind resistance. Guess there's a reason no one else builds trailers like this, huh? I think I'll pass on it, and start looking into the Tractor Supply/Harbor Freight options.

Thanks guys

I had a fold up 4x8 HF for years and it worked fine. Too small for two street bikes altho it made a couple Hill Country trips with two on it.

I sold it and got a 5x8 from The Trailerman in Spring.. don't recall what I paid but it is perfect for a pair of street bikes with two quality chocks.
