Speed?

How fast have you been clocked at on you SuperMotard?

Just got clocked doing 99mph in a 55mph. 2nd tickets on a bike, both while I was out at lunch. I think I need to just stay in @ lunch.

When I went past the cop he thought I was a crotch rocket and figured I wouldn't stop. I stopped because I didn't think I was going that fast. Speedo on the WR250X was reading 74. If it is that far off how fast was I going the other morning when it read 101 on my way in to work?
Speedo healer is in the mail.

The cop asked if it was a dirt bike and why I was driving it on the street. Then he asked why don't I get a crotch rocket to drive on the street. I told him that it was a street legal 250cc and had I been on a crotch rocket I'd have been doing about a buck-30. He laughed and nodded. He was really cool but still gave me the ticket.

I honestly thought getting a 250cc bike would help keep me from getting tickets. I figured I'd be getting tickets for driving on side walks, medians or cutting through ditches.

What gearing are you running?
Even with the stock gearing I could barely get it in the mid 90's.

Just about every WR250R/X speedo is off from the factory.

With stock gearing the best I could do was the speedo reading 96, that was going downhill. I just changed it to 14/49. I'm thinking about putting the stock 13 back on it for a little more low end.

With your current gearing, I don't think its possible to be going that fast.
I had 13/46(which is basically the same as 14/49) for awhile and gearing commander confirms that the top speed is around 85mph @ 10k.

That's what ppl said when I built my 85 4Runner w/22re as a rock crawler/DD, with 5.29 gears and dual transfer cases. I could cruise all day long @ 85 getting 24MPG, GPS Confirmed.

If I have time tonight I'll zip-tie my phone to the crossbar and see what the GPS says. If the bike won't do 99 then I guess I could plea not guilty when I go to court. But I am pretty sure this bike can do it.

99mph(actual)= going downhill, wind at your back, full tuck, 14/42 gearing and holding it WFO for a couple miles.

, I thought the only time a 250 single could do 100 mph was in the back of a pickup truck.

You better dispute that ticket, especially if your speedo is off from the factory.

this.

If you were hitting 99mph, you would have had to be pegged out as fast as that bike would go. If you "didn't think you were going that fast", how could you possibly think that if you were pegged out? It's not something you don't notice on those bikes. Having owned a wr250x, the cops radar was off. But that's not a likely scenario, unless he was bullshitting a number. That's the more likely scenario.

I know when i do 75 on my bike it feels like 75. 75 is about the norm speed I do on my bike. I know when Im doing 95 on my xr, it feels much faster than 75.

The OP should know the difference between 75 and 99 on a 250.

Also whether or not the bike will do 99, I would go to the court saying "There is no way my small 250 can do 99 mph" . Maybe it can do 99 but you want the judge and everyone else in the room thinking it cant and not even near 99. Then if you get out of the ticket or lowered to 60 or something nice, walk out of the court room with a grin on your face. 99 in a 55, your ins isnt going to like that.

Sorry guys, I wish it was an April Fools. Then I wouldn't have to deal with it.

f8683b0c 0a5e 4ba4 a1f1 ea698628ffc4

GPS'd the bike after work. The cop was way off. When my speedo reads 74 I'm actually doing 65. I didn't take it out on the highway to max it out. But yall are right, there is now way my bike does 99. It just feels a lot faster than the speed you are actually going. Maybe he heard the exhaust and just the speed that way.

I didn't ask to see the radar because every other time I've asked the cops have always gave me lip and wanted to site me for refusing to take the ticket. I figured if I really was going that fast I didn't want to him off and cause him to call a tow truck to get my bike.

Gonna contact a lawyer and try to get it dismissed.

Anyone got a number to a good traffic lawyer?

man that sucks, I talked to a former Leo awhile back and he said it was difficult to get an accurate radar reading on motos in general.
Good luck!
