Ride gear

Now that I ride my bike 50% of the time im on the street the first thing I notice about another rider is the ride gear they are wearing. T shirt and tennis shoes.

Im not sure why this bothers me so much other than when its fall time a good high shoe or boot and jacket would help so much when needed.

I dress for the fall and not so much for the ride.

Im talking about on FM roads, hwy and freeway riding.

This is not a hate post so please no one take it that way.

I feel the same, dress for the fall not the ride! Definitely want to protect the main contact points. I try not to judge too much. Many many years ago I use to ride without all the proper gear, I guess I was lucky at that time. I have a family now and things are a lot different. I think a lot of us have been a "squid" at one point or another, just not many will admit it. Gear up!

On a seldom case I don't wear all my gear which is usually when I go to work, granted my job literally is 1.3 miles away. Even on that 1.3 mile trip something could happen and I regret not wearing it. I've been trying to remind myself to wear everything on that ride to work. We noticed loads of squids on our ride this last saturday, jogging pants, tennis shoes and a sweater. I was telling a buddy of mine yesterday about it and he said he rides in his crocs, jogging pants and a tshirt across the street to the grocery store, I reminded him is 1 foot out the gate is all it's going to take but he swears up and down nothing will happen. :|

I once asked a kid who lived across the street where his brain bucket was...his response, I'm on a 3 wheel Spyder, not a bike. Less than 2 weeks later his mom was putting him 6 ft under and he left behind 2 kids and 1 that had not yet arrived.

Yesterday I saw three guys on cruisers thinking they were cool without their helmets or any protective gear and that's absolutely their right. The sad thing is that they all had their sons on the back with no lids and they were young teens. I don't care if someone wants to be in the wind and honestly I do it my self but to put your child in harms way, I don't understand. I'm sure they are "great" riders and nothing is going to happen because they were just riding down the street and back.

An editorial in motorcycle consumer news a year or two ago described something we all know but most of us never noticed.
It pointed out that the writer had attended a road race and then went to something like Daytona bike week. His observation was that the sport bike crowd was largely wearing gear and even the cruiser people at least had boots and maybe a leather vest.
It was the "touring" bike people that were the worst gear offenders. Most of them were wearing golf shirts, shorts and loafers. Open face Helmets, no gloves.
