Hey guys I have the week off and I was wanting to go ride. I have never been just heard about it. Where is the best place to ride? Also what kind of permits do I need? If anybody wants to go let me know.

You can purchase an OHV sticker from Cycle Shack North on I-45 in Conroe (closed Mondays), then you pay $5 cash at the trail head (honor system), and your good to ride. Best place to ride right now is the Balloon Loop, not as muddy and wet as the rest of the trails at this moment, rode it Saturday. I attached Saturdays ride video so you can see what to expect out there.
I may can go Tuesday afternoon if you want to ride then.

Are these trails, Atv Friendly? All I have to do is go to the cycle shack and buy a sticker to put on the quad?

Quads are different. You have to take a safety course and pass it, then get a quad sticker. You'll also have to pay a day pass at the trail head $5 or buy a yearly pass from the rangers station. Rangers out there usually check quads when they see them. Check the rules also for quads, may have their own set of rules for riding out there, not sure, know you have to wear helmets for sure.

Oh wow, that sure is a difference. Thank you for the heads up on that, almost sounds like more trouble than it's worth. I wonder why it is so different between quads and dirtbikes?

Don't know why. Just know there is. You can call the ranger station at 1-888-361-6908 and ask what you need to ride the trails in the SHNF, they could probably give the whole story.

Man that sure looks like fun, I may have to pick me up a cheap Cr125 or something along those lines to come out and play.

I have them, but you can go to OLD DUDES ON DIRT BIKES meetup site and they are all posted under photos section or you can go to SHNF trails coalition and they have detailed maps there. Can also get maps at the ranger station and should have some at the trailheads.
