I hear about this happening a lot. Is it only the cowlings that do this compared to having the rear seat?? My bike didn't come with the rear cowling and I've been thinking about getting one. Maybe I won't after all then.

Just make sure to push it until it clicks then tug it a little to make sure it locked. My seat cowl cost $330 so I'm not about to let it fly off the bike, lol

Never had one fly off a Honda. It locks in place the same as the seat.

You probably didn't lock it down properly.

In my case, the bracket stayed attached but the cowling broke off at 3 mounting tabs.
I didn't realize the tabs were weakening over time and one day I guess it finally gave.

That happened to my brother once. He was able to catch it and slow down on the shoulder of the freeway

i honestly wouldnt risk a sudden move to catch it at freeway speeds. not worth it if you die.

I would have made a few passes back to see if I could spot it in the shoulder lanes.

He had about five fly off in the past so he was probably fed up. One time he had one fly off and we went back to look for it. It was shattered to pieces but we spent like an hour on I-10 (late night with no traffic) because I swapped a Z1000 tail section on his Z750 and had a lot of time into the seat cowl bracket. We eventually found it and he hasn't lost one since.
