First five minutes . Bought a kawi650. Didn't know what I was doing, kind of a go for it attitude . Jumped on, got it to go, then wiped out in neighbors driveway b/c I didn't know how to turn and was going to hit their SUV. 5 foot scrape in concrete sill there today. Good reminder every time I pull out of the garage.

Dropped my first bike on the first month. It was a used 250 so I didn't care as much. Haven't yet dropped my new 600. But I was washing it with my ahole friends and went upstairs to get some soap and came back and saw one of my friend sitting on it without the kickstand down. Told him to get off, but he's like he got it. I turn around to get the bucket and boom. My new 600 dropped and not even by me... Suffice to say, my friend got my wrath.

It's about respecting the machine's limits, but you push anything to it's limits (including yourself) and you're bound to have something go wrong sooner or later.
Yes I include maintenance because a lot of the stuff can be prevented. Hole in the tire or something like that is the environment. The bike only does what it's told and will operate as designed if properly maintained.

I dropped my bike last year... Coming home from the 3 Sister, was tired as , gassing the bike up, Bike was running, and my derp knocked the shifter into first when I went to climb on and the back jumped forward JUST ENOUGH to fall over..Though if I caught it..and set it down gently..

And we won't talk about the time I got off the KZ thinking the kickstand was down after another long day at work..

As for crashes, I've been rear ended by a Texting teenager once. KZ got a scratch and the tail got scratched but it punctured a hole through that trucks Bumper ;D.

Crashed lots on an old Honda ST 50 when I was around 5-9, than crashed more and harder with a Yamaha YZ125. Crashed on a V-max about 10 yrs ago due to me looking back to check out a chick, didn't see the twisty in the street till it was too late, but I did get her attention though, and her number! Dropped one of my V-max bikes, and my old R1. Never dropped or had a close call yet with my existing bike. I'm extra extra careful with her.

worst most ego crushing time i've dropped my bike is when a lace on my shoe caught on my peg when i went to put my foot down at a stop light. Was in the very front and there were about 10 cars behind me, got back up and tried to act like nothing happened.

Crashed a few months ago due to some oil on the road, lowsided at about 30-35
