Bike maintenance witk the tank off

I'm gonna sync my carbs and it requires taking off my fuel tank and running my bike... so my question is: can I just drop a line into a fuel can or do I need a rig that holds the fuel above so it can flow downward? Bike is a Honda shadow 1100

when you turn the key, do you hear the pump prime? this little noise for like 3 second.

or it could be a vaccum pump. a youtube search wouldn't hurt of how to.

I'll have to check on some of those things when I get back to the house. Also, it's a 2001 and I don't hear anything when I turn the key.

Just leave the fuel hose attached sticking straight up (zip ties would help), it should give you enough time to balance the carbs. If you need more fuel, just fill it till the feed hose is full again.

I'd like one of those but I can't justify spending that much on a plastic bottle. I think I might try building one, though.
