The one small piece of news in that link, for me anyway, is that it was the current owners of the track that filed for the redevelopment. I was thinking it was just some developer planning for the future, not the owners.

We've known it for a few years.
The two biggest things I took away from the response are these:

That said, the property was purchased several years ago and the owners made no misrepresentations about their intentions. They are real estate investors, not motorsports facility operators.

So, if anyone was paying attention, we've known for some time it would come to this.

More importantly though for those wishing to start petitions etc.:

There was an ongoing attempt to sell the property, and an IPO to clubs and racers, and no one in the motorsports world seemed to be interested.

Now, if no one from the racing world is willing to step up financially, why shouldn't the owners be able to do what they wish with their property?
To those that support the petition; would you like someone telling YOU what to do with your property?
I think not.

Either spend that energy trying to organize a consortium of buyers dedicated to keeping the track and improving it, perhaps even building a motorsports community around it ala MSR Cresson, or accept the fact that TWS (Texas World Speedway)' days are numbered.

Exactly Patrick. People are still going to and moan no matter what. Cause they are humans...and that's what humans do (thank I aint one, just visiting this planet).

As I stated in the other thread. The goal of every land owner is to sell it and make a profit. If you can't make money on it to pay the property taxes while you wait for the market value to increase to what you want out of it, property will only cost you money and worse. This is why every single track, rv park, 4x4 trail, dirtbike, bmx bike track is there. Just to cover the taxes and upkeep costs till they can sell it.

Perfect Example: Ray Kroc
http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/197544
"
Ray opened his first McDonald's in April 1955 in the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines. He used the meticulously clean and efficient restaurant as a showcase for selling McDonald's franchises to the rest of the country. For each franchise he sold, Ray would collect 1.9 percent of the gross sales. From that he would give the McDonalds one-half percent. Kroc sold 18 franchises his first year in business but was shocked to discover he was barely making enough money to cover his expenses. In his haste to acquire the rights to the McDonalds' methods, he had made them a deal they couldn't refuse. Unfortunately, it was a deal on which he couldn't make any money.

Then Kroc met Harry Sonnenborne, a financial genius who showed Kroc how to make money-not by selling hamburgers, but by selling real estate. Under Sonnenborne's plan, Kroc set up a company that would purchase or lease the land on which all McDonald's restaurants would be located. Franchisees then paid Kroc a set monthly rental for the land or a percentage of their sales, whichever was greater. By owning the land the franchises were built on rather than just the franchises themselves, Kroc was guaranteed a profit. With his real-estate formula in place, Kroc set out to fulfill his goal-opening 1,000 McDonald's from coast to coast."

Well I guess there is a lot of moaning and groaning because TWS (Texas World Speedway) is more or less the center piece of the CMRA race schedule, as well as the track day season.

It's a unique track with only a few other tracks nation wide having a similar layout. What's great, TWS (Texas World Speedway) is accessible to anyone that wants to ride a track based off a super speedway.

When it's gone, there will never be another track like that in this region. I can't go to Daytona or Homestead, but I can drive an hour and be at a very fast and fun track.

Which begs the question; why isn't there another track?
It's not like there isn't a ton of land in the area. I know of a couple of ventures that never got off the ground, possibly because TWS (Texas World Speedway) had such a strong presence.
Cota could fill the void TWS (Texas World Speedway) leaves, or possibly another track may pop up, much like Cresson and Angleton did.
Time will tell.

Well it will get developed eventually. But I'd say no sooner than five years.

Reading that press release was the first I had heard of this. Not that I would've participated but if it was a major push I'm surprised I never heard about it.

I'm also surprised some rich car guys didn't try to scoop TWS (Texas World Speedway) up. I heard it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 11 mil which doesn't seem like a whole lot considering the location and acreage. But that track probably needs another 11 million in repairs, at least, and I'm sure that's a huge turn off.

Well guys, if I win the $400 mil lottery tonight I'll make every effort to buy TWS (Texas World Speedway) and keep it open. That's the best I can do.
