fender eliminator vs. Johnny Law

Totally got pulled over riding my gsxr the other day on the beltway near JFK and the airport, because my license plate is "illegally positioned." I didn't get a ticket, but that might be because I still have my Washington State ID and I pulled the "I'm new here" card.

My question to you, fellow riders; do many of you have issues getting pulled over or cited because of your fender eliminators? my plate is tucked all the way back by my rear tire, should i really move it to be more visible? can i get away with warnings if i get pulled over again in the future?

Dont give the popo a stupid excuse to pull you over. Its more PITA out in the country roads to get pulled over by those bored country cops.

The law, as I recall, says it has to be positioned at the rear of the vehicle, in plain sight.
Of course, what that means is up to the officer at the time of the stop.
There are ways to mount the plate, that look a lot nicer than the stock position that still meet the requirement of plain sight.

Why don't you just stop trying to hide your plate. Cops already pick on motorcycles, why give them another excuse to mess with you? And put a white light to illuminate you plate too.

.. all that said before, and also if you moved more than 2 or 3 weeks ago (I believe) the officer can write you a citation for not updating your current address.

i have an LED so it's always illuminated. and it's not that I'm trying to hide it. It's visible! ...just not as visible as the cops want it...obviously.

Law currently is visible and readable from 30 feet with a Federally approved light source. So technicaly an aftermarket light could get you busted. As long as you can take a tape measure and take a picture that is readable from 30 feet. Ticket dismissed. Better to just shim the bottom half so it is angled down more. Couldn't hurt to add a few leds to light up the rear end that also catch the plate.
