Crash And Burn

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police say a street race between a motorcyclist and a driver in a car sparked a police chase through southwest Houston. It ended in a fiery crash.

Houston police tried to pull over the motorcycle rider along Westheimer and Briarpark just before 1am but he took off. Police chased him onto the Sam Houston Tollway. That is when the motorcyclist lost control, bounced off an SUV at a red light and then hit a patrol car, which burst into flames.

The motorcyclist survived and suffered only minor burns.

"They said he was up and walking around after the bike crashed. Just the lower portion of his body caught on fire," said Sgt. JD Rossman with the Houston Police Department.

The motorcyclist is being charged with felony evading. The other vehicle in the street race has not been found.

That sentence fragment suggests the patrol car burst into flames. Is ABC hiring 7th graders to write their pieces now?

You try to write as soon as you get out of bed

They fixed it and updated at the same link

That's a good guess. The driver got away because he didn't crash into and catch on fire

My guess is that the bike ran first and the cop (singular) chased after him. This allowed for a the drive in the cage to casually drive away and start putting sharp corners between him and the scene of the race.

Just my two cents.

Chances are... he ran because he's already got a long rap sheet, so adding a little "felony evading" isn't gonna matter much to his vacation time.
