what's your point?
Please be specific.

My point is that the current owners bought TWS (Texas World Speedway) as an investment. Forcing them to forgo any profit from their investment simply because you like riding the track is BS, plain and simple.
It would be no different than if a national chain offered Mark a HUGE sum of money for one of his restaurants, or someone offered Peter a huge sum of money for his mosquito business.
Now, let's say you had your first date with your now wife at Marks place, or because Peters mosquito service does such an awesome job you were able to propose to said wife in August without being carried away by the winged bastards.
Because of this you don't want the place to change. You start up a FB petition page to not allow Mark to sell his restaurant or Peter to sell his business.
How is that any different?

As Tojo said, things change. Racetracks get sold and turned into subdivisions and shopping malls all of the time.
As previously mentioned it's typically the long term goal behind the initial investors: a means of paying property taxes and maybe paying the mortgage until the lands value increases enough to make a desired profit.

Want to save the track? I mean really want to, not just create a bunch of hoopla and pw&moan on the internet?
Come up with a group of like minded investors that will pay the asking price for the property.
Anything else is just a fart in the whirlwind.
Sad but true, I will be there on Monday trying to enjoy it till we can...

Exactly.
I will sorely miss the place, even though I no longer ride there.
I will always have my memories though.

Good points. Totally dig the free market principals, we really just wanted to see what you all thought about the subject. I guess since its private property it doesn't matter then we should just enjoy it then while it lasts.

Sorry some of us not all of HALFFAST feel this way too but its just sad. :(

I think not.
Unfortunately you're right. It's too far fetched of a notion to give back to the community when you're in a financial position to be able to; and those tracks allowed you to hone your craft to a level where you could compete on a world stage. Honestly, how much would it have cost to save Oak Hill? $500,000? I'm not saying they are only to blame, we are all to blame for not trying to save these places. The track could be rented out for $75 a day, whereas a day at COTA is $485 two days out of the year. Oak Hill was a great place to get cheap track time to actually get better.
I'd go out on a limb, and say more people got pleasure out of Oak Hill being a track, then they do now. Build the stupid houses down the road somewhere.

It's my understudying that in Texas if something is declared historical site is only symbolic to discourage the developers from tearing it down and perhaps a small fine. But ultimately the developer can do it.

Ever heard of Riverside or Ascot Park or Altamont Raceway or Chicago Motorspeedway?

They were all famous in their day and all closed because the stands weren't full enough to keep the neighbors from complaining and the developers from salivating about the land value. TWS (Texas World Speedway) is in the same boat.

Waste of time. The track was offered for sale years ago and no one bought it. You had your chance...you cant "Petition" a business to NOT make money. LOL

Im with Patrick and Common Sense on this one.

Who is this petition supposed to sway? The owners are supposed to not benefit from their investment or the gov is supposed to tell the owners they cant change things? Can yall imagine if it actually worked this way?

It does sometimes....when there is relevance to the petition. Or when it imposes quality of life (I remember petitions back when I was a kid to deny right of way taking for W Gulf Bank to go all the way through). Several neighborhoods and homes in the near vicinty would have been impacted....I'm pretty sure it was never extended/completely built out) based on the request of the nearby citizens. I don't think "not being able to ride TWS (Texas World Speedway)" is gonna be enough to convince a planning commission to say, "yeah, we better deny this economic and urban growth".

I have lived in Texas all my life, and visited Europe a few times. Something that I found intriguing - is that they have buildings and landmarks that are hundreds of years old.

But here in America we tear things down while there could be plenty of life left in them. The mindset is totally different. The Astrodome; Texas World Speedway; automobiles; etc.

Sure the developers and investors are in it to make money - and it is probably too late to do anything about it - but for Heaven's sake couldn't they have found property down the road to build the stupid houses on? Why tear something down? AARRRGH !!!!

with all utilities available? With easy access on/off Hwy 6? Adjacent to up and coming areas?

While I hate to see a "favorite" track go....it's the name of the game. then again, I'm in civil and and pretty much pro-developer.
