Thoughts on new developments in the Pat Tillman Case

Here are two articles:

Soldier: Army ordered me not to tell truth about Tillman

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The last soldier to see Army Ranger Pat Tillman alive, Spc. Bryan O'Neal, told lawmakers that he was warned by superiors not to divulge -- especially to the Tillman family -- that a fellow soldier killed Tillman.

O'Neal particularly wanted to tell fellow soldier Kevin Tillman, who was in the convoy traveling behind his brother at the time of the 2004 incident in Afghanistan.

"I wanted right off the bat to let the family know what had happened, especially Kevin, because I worked with him in a platoon and I knew that he and the family all needed to know what had happened," O'Neal testified. "I was quite appalled that when I was actually able to speak with Kevin, I was ordered not to tell him."

Asked who gave him the order, O'Neal replied that it came from his battalion commander, then-Lt. Col. Jeff Bailey.

"He basically just said ... 'Do not let Kevin know, that he's probably in a bad place knowing his brother's dead,' " O'Neal told House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Henry Waxman. "And he made it known I would get in trouble, sir, if I spoke with Kevin on it being fratricide."

The military instead released a "manufactured narrative" detailing how Pat Tillman died leading a courageous counterattack in an Afghan mountain pass, Kevin Tillman told the committee.

Tillman's brother accuses military of 'intentional falsehoods'

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Pat Tillman's brother accused the military Tuesday of "intentional falsehoods" and "deliberate and careful misrepresentations" in portraying the football star's death in Afghanistan as the result of heroic engagement with the enemy instead of friendly fire.

"We believe this narrative was intended to deceive the family but more importantly the American public," Kevin Tillman told a hearing of the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee. "Pat's death was clearly the result of fratricide," he said.

"Revealing that Pat's death was a fratricide would have been yet another political disaster in a month of political disasters ... so the truth needed to be suppressed," said Tillman, who was in a convoy behind his brother when the incident happened three years ago but didn't see it.

He said the Tillman family has sought for years to get at the truth about Pat Tillman's death.

"We have now concluded that our efforts are being actively thwarted by powers that are more interested in protecting a narrative than getting at the truth and seeing justice is served," he said.

Tillman was killed on April 22, 2004, after his Army Ranger comrades were ambushed in eastern Afghanistan. Rangers in a convoy trailing Tillman's group had just emerged from a canyon where they had been fired upon. They saw Tillman and mistakenly fired on him.

Committee chairman Rep. Henry Waxman, D-California, contended that the federal government invented "sensational details and stories" about the death of Pat Tillman and the rescue of Jessica Lynch from Iraq.

"The government violated its most basic responsibility," said Waxman.

So what are your thoughts on the possibility that the ARMY vis a vis the government has set the precedent of intentionally partaking in propaganda and other various falsifications?

he told the panel that writing a field report stating that his brother had been "transferred to an intensive care unit for continued CPR after most of his head had been taken off by multiple 5.56 rounds is not misleading."

O'Neal testified that his superiors had him write a statement about the incident for Tillman's Silver Star commendation. He said the final version contained false statements about enemy fire that had been inserted by someone else.
I knew it was possible and I realize it probably goes on more than we actually know, but still kinda scary...

Definately, and continually moreso....it is amazing the amount of things that come to light given a lil time and an entity willing to provide a lil illumination...

basically Tillmans brother blast the military for how they handled his brothers death.

back in the earlier wars, you were told your so-n-so was KIA. w/ the current media they investigate to the Nth degree.

was it better just to be told your relative died in action. or better to be told your relative was killed by friendly fire?

IMO, let sleepign dogs lie. none of this investigation is going to bring him back. and i seriously doubt the other soldiers intentionally set out to kill him.

+1
I speak both as a 7 year Army veteran and as the son of a career Army Warrant Officer who pulled 2 tours in Vietnam.
