Did a little speed test on the S1000rr...(vid)

Yes, it has no top end, but it gets there real quick....LOL... I have a -1 sprocket on the front. These things are geared stupid low to start with, I'm at 16/45 gearing now. I just wanted to see if there was a speed limiter in 6th gear or not....obviously not..

E31C6E3A 7668 44E3 AAE9 E05CFE7F1C5E zpskcdzj553

I've got a swingarm being built for it so I can pull it back about 4" and perform a few mods to make this thing a roll race hero.... from 60-170 anyway. Not looking for max top speed with this one...Just some roll race stuff like we always do down here. Just incase it makes its way out to TX2K14 for some battle with 1000hp cars...

To clarify its slow-ness, Stock gearing is 17/45 and supposed to be good for 190. I think its really good for about 186 mph. To run 200 mph its gonna need 17/41 or so to get it there. Definitely has the power to do it but not within a mile I don't believe.

Oh and I was not WOT until after I got around the Tahoe and in 4th gear I believe, that's why it looks so slow in the beginning.. ITs actually a pretty nasty little once you get it wot in 3rd... 1st/2nd wheelie too bad to do anything with it.

It seemed to stick around 180 which is darn close to the 300kph limit. Are you sure there is no ECU based limiter that's messing with fuel and/or timing?

Looks like a lot of fun, btw.

No speed limiter. Its hard to tell in the vid but it was actually bouncing off the rev limiter... It would pull to 14,200, bump the limiter and drop to 13,800, then climb back up and do it again... That's why you would see 180, then 179, then 180... It was just out of gear due to the -1 front sprocket.

Normally speed limiters work by limiting RPMs in 6th gear... That rpm limit is set by whatever engine speed it takes to hit 186mph/299kph. Obviously, this one pulls all the way to redline.

The speedo on S1000RRs will stop at 186 but the bike will continue to gain speed until it hits the rev limiter.. Which is said to be around 190 ish. But by my calculations on my own bike, I think it will top out at 186-187 with stock 17/45 gearing.

For comparison, stock ZX10Rs use 17/39 gearing. That's why they can run 192-195 mph when de-restricted.

I knew BMW's were geared low but not that low. The BMW has an extra 450 RPM's over a stock ZX10R so I guess it makes the top end loss not as noticeable.

Yes 17/45 is stock for S1000RR, ZX10 is 17/39, they have a lot more top speed capability after flashing.

Negative.. We only did one roll on and it was unplanned so I didn't have the camera on. Something was acting up on his ZX14 so he backed out of it in 4th. We got home and looked at some stuff in his bazzaz software and apparently the traction control may have been coming on. We turned it off completely. We're gonna take it to Johnny's to tune it after he gets the swing arm on.

Both of our swing arms should be here in about 2 wks.

Then I have to do the air shifter stuff on mine.

Not putting the whole drag setup on it, at least not yet. Just doing a 3-7" arm, only going to pull it 4-5" back.. (61", still shorter then my busa). Not lowering it or anything... I do want the air shifter though, easier to shift out of a wheelie with the button then the foot.

Down the road if I decide to drag it, all i'll need is the caliper brackets/ U link (dog bones). I'm setting this one up for roll racing and still maintain good handling. There is a group of guys up in Dallas I want to go ride with... They do TONS of roll racing the way we used to do it down here... Tons of ZX10s, ZX14Rs, BMWs etc etc... I'm working on making mine have a nasty hit..

Much the same way Glyn/Mike Mathews had their bikes set up back in the day.
