Gear Indic. install tips?

I just got my hands on a digi gear indicator that i wanna have put on the bike for trackdays. ( i know it wont make me go faster and that i should learn to remember what gear i'm in :eh: ) There are only a few wires to install yet i still have reservations about the job. Anyone installed one of these before? Should i let a lics. mech tackle this job or can i do it myself? Any tips on install?

honestly, if you ride properly on the track, you shouldn't have time to look at a gear indicator to see what gear you're in, most people just memorize or go off of engine sound.
