Expect him to bail.
Learn from your mistake.
Never let anybody take a test ride until they have handed you cash. All of it.

That's why you ask to hold cash for test drives.

No test rides without cash in hand...

Pretty standard.

small claims court?

I dunno, unless you had him sign some pretty legitimately legal documents and have a witness on your side, I think you're probably skewered

wait is he saying he will pay for the damage? I mean, I doubt he actually will but get an estimate, get cash from him and then move on

Reminds me of that Geico commercial. Sorry for your loss. Did the rider have insurance? Do you have full coverage?

I don't really see the point of motorcycle test rides. Unlike a car you can see both sides of the wheels and everything is exposed.

Good luck. I have only sold one bike in my life. They asked for a test ride and I refused. They still bought it and dumped it in a ditch 2 months later.

It works well if you are trading bikes.

Just because it looks good doesn't mean it will run good. I wouldn't buy anything used without riding it first.

I follow the money in hand test ride rule and never had any issues.

If you look it over very well there just isn't as much that can have problems easily exposed in a test drive. Motorcycles are not that complicated.I guess that has changed now with so many electronics introduced and how expensive repair on those systems would be. But a car has much less risk in letting someone test drive it, and much more to be gained by the buyer in exposing flaws.

I agree with a money in hand before a test drive policy. It should be considered a sold bike contingent of everything checking out on the test drive.

well you would never know every gear on a bike is good until you shift through everyone to se if it catches.
