I have one of those headlight modulators. Don't know how much more visible/noticable it makes in in the day time, but I figure, something is better than nothing.

remember peeps, you ARE invisible. Cagers just don't see you, or assume you'll give them the rightaway.

I just had this conversation yesterday with a friend; I always assume the worse, and plan my evasive route.

The other thing to practice practice practice is counter steering and to look where you want to go.

Target fixation and turning the wrong way account for lots of newbs accidents.

Anyways, I hope the rider is ok! I'm actually right here on Sheldon as we speak! I'm on my blackberry at lunch with my dad on his lunch break at baytown seafood.

As much as I would love to agree with you and do somewhat...it is the riders fault and must be looked at in that way by all riders. You must be looking WAY ahead of where you actually are and anticipating that EVERY cager is going to pull something stupid. Riders must make it their job to MAKE sure that cager sees you. Anytime I see a cager in the turning lane, whether heading my direction or pointed the opposite direction, I tell myself they ARE going to pull out in front of me and act accordingly, somewhat takin evasive maneuvers ahead of time. Many times, that has saved me troubles as they most often do pull out but I'm already out of the way. Needless to say, it bothers me when bikers and non-bikers make the statement that "they just didn't see them". I am sure there are extenuating circumstances but more often than not...that biker was not thinking ahead and making himself seen. I go out of my way to make myself obvious to the cager and even then...just because they see you in their mirror...they may STILL try to kill you. :confused1 Anyway...definitely my opinion and I do respect all that everyone has contributed to this thread. Be careful out there, amigos!

?

Luckily, I've never been hit by a car turning left in front of me. But I know that there are some folks on here who would tell you that, from their experience, it's pretty tough to dodge a car that turns in front of you w/o warning - regardless of how attentive you are being.

Do you slow to a stop for every car that looks like it might turn in front of you?

I don't; but if they have their signal on I give them a lot more attention and plan escape routes.

There is no planning for someone that decides to just "hang a looie" in front of you.
