First Track Bike Project - 2007 CBR600

It always seems like I have some sort of project going...and after 6 months of not having a sport bike I gave in and picked up a 2007 CBR600 track bike last weekend. Has about 8000 miles and is a track bike only.

Cleaned it up and stripped off the raw fiberglass fairings last weekend for some paint. Seems like a clean bike so far, just ordered some Vesrah RJL brake pads and am planning on going to the MSR track day on Feb 8th.

Not sure on the fairing brand...held up pretty well. I think they were Chinese based on the fitment.

I'm also not sure on the cause of the crash. It just fell out from under me. My guess is not fully warmed tires and possibly debris. I wasn't leaning the bike much. Surprised the heck outta me!

I watched it a few times and couldnt quite source what the cause was either.
But hey, live and learn right?! That's why we go to the track. That way we can mess up and walk away.

How'd the gear hold up? Give us a crash report?

Suit has some rash on the ad both elbows, Shoei never hit the ground thankfully, gloves had a plastic palm protector and they definitely did their job. Just have a long bruise on my arm where my arm hit the edge of the pad in the suit when it smashed into the ground.

That gear looks in way better shape than mine was when I first got it lol. I am still riding in those leathers... in fact they are getting repaired because the seams are coming apart right now. Should be ready for this weekend. Seems like you came out pretty good.

Photo updates with a new paint scheme. Stripped the bike, started some fiberglass work but that was put on hold when I broke my electric sander. Prepped and repainted the wheels and painted the non-wrecked fairings.

Ash, Id bet your tires were just a tad cold. Also sounded like you were starting to roll on the throttle abit while increasing lean angle. Even as slight of a change as it was if there was even the slightest slick spot on the road or tire down she go. Glad you are ok though. Luckily its a track bike and was on a track. Get her fixed up soon! Track days are so addicting!

That's my guess, not fully warmed tires and track surface circumstances

Over the last two weekends I kicked myself in the to finish the CBR's fairings. Bought a sander to blast through the fiberglass reinforced body filler - totally worth it!*I'm pretty sure these fairings are Chinese, so I fixed them enough that they function correctly and look pretty good. Hey, it's a track bike right?

Initially I wanted to to gloss black with the new orange wheels, but after seeing the blemishes in the black after spraying I decided satin black was a more realistic choice for repaired fiberglass. I think I actually prefer the satin now, much easier to spray and it matches my flat black leathers and helmet.

One of the wiring harnesses going along the right side of the bike going into the instrument cluster is damaged and causes the fuel pump to run slightly intermittently. That might also be why my fuel level and speedometer don't work. After finding out the fuel pump issue I disconnected the battery are went of with a basic mock-up of the new painted wheels, fairings and double bubble windscreen.

I would definitely say cold tires contributed, were you on warmers? I was there at the track and I think I came by slightly after you had crashed. Glad you and the bike are only slightly damaged.

Great looking bike!
