about the painters, my dad owns a painting company and insurance isnt that expensive. if the builder is reputable, more than likely the subcontractors have "papers" and the builder has some sort of liability insurance in order to build and hire subcontractors.

people need to take responsibility, but sometimes its better to lead the way instead of falling back.

It is, but then you have to deal with the lawyers. If you need some blown up estimates to rake the builder let me know. Maybe they'll think twice about who they hire.(people that care for someone elses property)

This is something that I am faced with on a daily basis. Try to fight for your ADA rights on a daily basis. It isn't easy. I have made complaints but people think that going to the restroom is a privilage and not a need. Same thing went along with my employer and the building mgmt for some automatic doors so that I wouldn't drop my laptop and lunch everyday.

Buck,
I feel your pain.

To me it seems as though many people nowadays are only concerned with themselves, with no consideration of their actions.

A lot of people seem only to have the attitude of "what's in it for me?", without regard to fairness or ethics.

I don't know when it happened, but it seems like it's been getting steadily worse.

I think some of it is the "absent parenting" of the last few generations.

I try to teach manners and ethics to my daughter, maybe when she get's older it won't be wasted.
Hopefully those of us who are parents can help influence the future by teaching our children.

i'd have to agree with this. i believe correct parenting is a GREAT foundation. children may stray away later, but at least you gave them a foundation to build on. if they want to demolish it, they'll do it anyways. but a good foundation will last a lifetime.
