Its made up.....He even says its a Polar Low Pressure as I stated...He is more of a broadcaster than a Meteorologist. You won't hear any meteorologists say that amongts themselves and it is just a colorful way to say Polar Low Pressure which is a cyclonic rotation (counterclockwise)-another thing that Meteorologists wont way

For those of you who don't know, if you want to quickly sift through all the BS google brings up, you can simply go to scholar.google.com to search appropriate publications, while bypassing most of the internet BS.

hmm... A quick search and browse of a couple of pages (yes, more than one!) of results and I'm seeing the term "polar vortex" appear in scientific papers as early as 1986. I'm surprised it's taken 28 years for the panic to catch on. They were probably just trying to scare people into reading their boring- paper anyway. "The area of the stratospheric polar vortex as a diagnostic for tracer transport on an isentropic surface" ??? Ain't nobody got time for that.
