Used DRZ, what to look for?

I'm in the market for a new toy and I think a DRZ will fill the empty spot in my life. I've read all about it being down on power, but throw some money at it and your good to go.
It'll be 80% town toy and 20% track.
Could someone tell me what to look at and for when I go? I have my eye on these two.
Just let me know what you guys can see from the pics, I know its hard to say,but....

The white one is an 08 with a little over 7,000 miles on it.

The black one is an 07 with the same miles.

I would look for service records. Look at the chain. If it's rusty chances are the owner didn't take care of the important stuff. Just my 2 cents.

There is one for sale in the classifieds section of this site. They already threw a bunch of money at it to make it faster. It has a fresh engine (600 miles) with a big bore/stroker kit and cams. Would cost thousands of dollars alone just to build that engine. It's well taken care of and owned by a professional mechanic.

Thanks, good info for any bike buyer.
I'm looking for the known problems (if any) with the DRZ that I can look for.

As far as the one for sale on here, I contacted him with the Z3 for trade. I'd really like something not cracked open yet. I like to do a little here and a little there myself.

There really aren't any other that the OEM cam chain tensioner being . But you would have to open it up to see if that is a problem.

Former DRZ owner here, I would listen for excessive valvetrain noise caused by either a bad Hydraulic Cam Chain Tensioner or an under/over tightentened Manual Cam Chain Tensioner, white smoke under accel or decel indicaticating fried rings, leaky front forks, dirty air filter. But again these are for purchasing any bike. The DRZ is pretty much problem free from the factory.

I would buy the one that already has an FCR, Cams, 3x3 mod, exhaust already if it is an option. Good luck....

When i built the engine for mine EVERY part in the engine was inspected/replaced as needed. I am a Gold cert suzuki tech with right at 10 years experience working on motorcycles as a profession. Motor has very few miles since rebuild, Would benefit with a FCR and Full exhaust. But bike is a monster Just the way it is. Test ride a stock/near stock one then make it up here and give it a ride. You will buy it then If you wanna take a loss on the z3 id be willing to trade

The more I read the more yours sounds pretty good.
As far as the Z3, my wife would kill me if I took to much of a loss, after all the parts I've been collecting for it.
Now if you would want to take a Loss on the bike, I have a little saved up money to work with, lol.
Getting the bait and switch on the white bike above.

From the seller:
"Sorry but this is owner and I bought that DRZ for me I also have a black one I paid more than your offering it has new tires blinkers and good bit of extras I have problems finding these and keep them for myself I bought for 3500 and listing for 4990 they are hard to replace and these are what I ride thanks for the offer and feel free to call ".

But the black 07 seems like a stand up guy.

Gotta love the wifes. Mine would kill me if I spend money on another toy. Drz is a fantastic do all bike. Not the fastest or lighest motard but a blast to ride. If you decide you could take less cash on the z3 let me know
