Question Lost Contact with guy "Fixing" Bike

Hey everyone!
In 2013 I bought a '93 GS500 off a "friend" that needed "some work". I bought all the parts that I could see it needed by myself, but when taking it apart I saw it to be too daunting to take on myself so I asked around and was referred by someone on here to contact a guy that does great work on bikes for cheap, as a hobby, but is very reliable.
In the beginning of August we talked about it and he said he'd come pick up my bike, we agreed on a price (I actually paid him more than he originally asked for because I thought what he was offering to do it for was too low). After a couple weeks I learnt it needed new parts to I sent him the money to get the parts. I was getting updates about the bike for a couple months, but around November time I kinda lost contact with him. When I was able to get in contact with him he thought I was talking about some other bike that he just received and finished rather quickly. I still believe no progress has been made on it, and the past few times I've tried to contact him, I haven't heard back.

What the do I do..?

What you don't do is pay someone before the work is completed. You need to locate your bike. Unless you at least have this guy's name, you're

Wow, this guy got you for your money and your bike. That sucks bad.

When you're using an individual person to do a repair job, always drop it off yourself and make sure you go inside for a minute or something to verify that they actually do live there.

In my personal experience, it's better to just pay a little more and have a shop do the job than risk it with some random "mechanic"

man you're naive....

Why the are you giving somebody more than what they asked for? If you really like spending money then just give the guy a tip once the bike is done if they deserve it.

Like others said...track the guy down and get the bike back.

If title is in your name and you can't get the bike back then report it stolen. Hope you have full coverage but I doubt it.

To answer a few questions:

Well considering the guy was highly recommended on here by a few people I assumed he was trust worthy.
I would've taken the bike myself but I had no way to transport it.
I paid him extra because I wanted it done quickly.
I have the guys Facebook, name, and number.
I also still have the title for the bike at my house.

ok then, if it was a recommendation from here, why not post it up, people have issues at times and maybe someone could help contact him and see whats up.

You only have 2 posts here, was the initial request made under another screen name?

Good stuff...

Post his info...if he's well known then this usually gets them to respond on the forum.

1. Blow up his FB and ask where your bike is.
2. Get the bike back and ask for your money as well. Tell him you'll report it stolen if he doesn't give it back.
3. Start a thread asking pubically who is willing to fix your bike. I'm sure you'll get HOP, Motorcycles Unlimited, and similar to offer help.

Good luck.

Okay the guys name is Robert Bence. His number is (713) 882-6081. I'm not saying he's taken it or anything. I just really want to know what's up.. Especially because I'll be going back to college next week.

And yeah. The post was done under a previous screen name which after a while of not logging on, I completely forgot l info for it lol
