NEED YOUR HELP! ABOUT TO PURCHASE A MOTORCYCLE!

Hello everyone!

I'm about to purchase a bike from a friend of mine. I wanted to basically ask you guys if I am getting a good deal in your opinion, or should I ask for a lower price.

Blue 2004 R6, 14500 miles.

-Blue Angel Eyes
-Micron Exhaust
-Frame Sliders
-Will throw in a set of brand new HID's
-95% Tread Mich. Tires

I have to get an inspection and the license plate updated if I buy it though. The price right now is at $5000.

So some quick questions, should I bargain it down more? Is this a great deal? What else should I be expecting?

Thanks for any input and any help.

try to bargain the deal lower so that you can get the proper gear needed. but the price sounds fair to me, trade in would be considerably less.

fair you may be able to go a little lower but wouldn't haggle too much if it is clean. great bike bike btw

Depends on how good of a friend is he. I have always give my friends a heck of a deal and I would be offended if they bargain down anymore. If friends that take advantage of another friend, I rathered be an enemy so I could keep my eyes on you.

Do a research on the price of the bike and if you think that it is a good deal, buy it. Other than that, don't bargain it will break your friendship over a few hundred dollars.

From everybodys experience, is 14500 a lot of miles? I've tried to research much on the 2004 r6 engines but not much luck.

also, thanks for everybodys input. he's not a really close friend or anything, just known him since high school. made a couple deals together on car parts etc.

I'd have a compression test done and a leak down test done. The engine could be tight with those miles if well taken care of. It also could have been run low on oil, or not maintenced well, or wheeled alot and that starves the engine of oil.

Water cooled engines have come a long way. It will last as long as it is cared for. There are several bikes that I have come across that has over 40k miles and still run strong like it was just off the showroom.

I've only heard good things about Motorcycle Unlimited, should I take it there to get it inspected? It would probably cost a bit to do those tests huh?

Motorcycles Unlimited would be the best place to take it. Don't think it costs that much. They can inspect the whole bike for you while it's on the rack, and charge you for an hour or 2.

Yeah, I just called..and they said that it would be $80 dollars.

I'm going to tell the guy selling the bike to renew the inspection himself, and get that license plate up to date, sorry to ask so many questions..but how much would doing both of that be? on average. That way, I can just tell him to take off that much and I'll do it myself.
