Ok so just a quick recap on the most risk free way to do this:
-Get an EZ tag device
-stick it under the seat or in my back pack
-Don't bother risking the 200 dollar fine/jail by "riding the stripe" because a lot of times the cameras don't sense your bike as a vehicle to begin with?

on a side note, it would be pretty hard for them to set up some kind of sting OP based on " a red sport bike has been riding the stripe at ____ time". I get off work at different times every day and would only be taking the toll road on the way home and only on the days I work out. On other days I take I45 to I10 to the 290 HOV lane.
Each day I spend a different amount of time at the gym, get there at a different time and I also work out on random days of the week because of the unpredictable work schedule.

True, I guess the damage is done now.

Perhaps I should have found a non local forum to post this on.

There is no way they are completely unaware of the issue, though.

They let it rack up to 800 dollars before they mailed you the fine!? I've gotten one for 100 dollars from my car...but 800 is unbelievable. That means you ran the toll 24 times before they decided to let you know you're going to be fined?

There seems to be a lot of mixed information on this subject. Google searches have only spawned even more questions.

Can someone who actually has experience doing this discreetly give me some solid advice?

My current mode of thought is:
-Get the EZ tag, open it up, soak it in water, rebuild. Carry it with me in case I get pulled over.
-mount tag vertically onto the side of the bike, so I can easily cover it with my foot.(can anyone give me a straight answer on if this is legal, because google had mixed info)
-That's pretty much it.

Can someone please clarify this: if my EZ tag sensor isn't working(obviously not because I've intentionally disabled it) and I go through the EZ tag lane, is there any fine for them having to match my tag number to my account, in the event that I decide it's too risky to try and cover my tag at that point in time?

Is there anyone who has been doing this recently and getting away with it? It seems like a lot of guys are going off of their experience from years ago and based on XJ's post, they must have solved the center line issue.

I could be wrong, but I came across some info that said the tollroad was sold to a private company. Under contract they can keep charging tolls for as long as there is some sort of upkeep/repair going on somewhere. This is why you see areas being repainted, repaived etc.

If it is privately owned, i'm pretty sure they will start closing all those little hickups that allow for free rides. I haven't noticed any of the red lights that would alert the driver (or cop) that no toll was paid. I think their cameras have gotten pretty good. Wasn't that the point of the Hennesy Vett going the 200mph through the cameras?

No, they will just charge it to your account. Sometimes the tags will not be read accidentally because of interfirences etc. so they can't really fine you for something that couldn't be your fault.

No it was 800 bucks in tolls, not fines lol...I was riding form south to woodlands everyday (60 miles on the toll roads each way)

All they need is the LP to charge your ez tag account, I don't even carry mine....

HCTRA is a bunch of idiots. I have a EZ tag and have always had one. For some reason my tag messed up and was not transmitting when I went through sometimes. They sent me the fines so I went down there to get it cleared up. I had to buy a new EZ tag for $15 and they were still trying to charge me the fines. The finally ended up dropping the fines and said they saved me money.

Talk about a scam. They can disable your ez tag and tell you it is not working, make you buy a new one, and still try to make you pay the fines. I bet some pay.

They sure screwed us putting in toll ways. They were suppose to be free once paid for.

There aren't all that many jobs anymore because they are moving to pretty much all EZ tag...yet another pain in my sham so that they can cut costs to make more profit...meanwhile making it more of a pain in my to register with them online and go on the to replenish my account balance on their crappy website that only works half the time. If you set up the auto replenish, it adds more when your account gets down to ten bucks...so they pretty much always have your ten bucks. Bastards.

If the money was being used for something useful I wouldn't mind pay, but the MFer's just keep using the money to expand the same road that doesn't even need it so they can raise the toll...then they do knows what with the excess money.

Yeah I read it wrong. It wouldn't surprise me that the county would do something like that just to get more money out of the fines, though.

this is starting to get too complicated. I think I might just go a little out of my way on one of the side roads, so I can catch 610 instead and...wait for the shocker...sit in traffic!

They're all over getting that toll road expanded, though. Way to go Harris county for fixing a problem that never existed, so you can justify jacking the tolls up even more while every other highways in the city is a nightmare.

That's pretty much the reason why I'm interested in running the tolls. It's not that the money is breaking the bank or anything... it's giving my money to these bastards that I hate.
