It is a fact that they have made over 1 billion dollars off of beltway 8 since it's construction. would you like for me to find the link for you?

all you have to do is google "how much money does beltway 8 make"...it's one of the first links that pops up. There is a local news article on it.

For the sake of all you guys who just love getting ripped off... they COLLECTED over 1 billion. It was constructed at a cost of about 275 million.

As far as me trolling goes; I'm not the one who instigated all the BS that got this thread off track to begin with. All I did was defend the reasoning behind my original post. I may have done it in keyboard warrior fashion, but that doesn't make me a troll.
I notice there are people on this forum who have years of experience and could probably give noobs like me some really good info, but almost 100% of their posts are useless garbage that is intentionally instigating more people to post more useless garbage. That is what trolling really is.

It takes away from the people on here who are genuinely helping others out.

Shelnutt ... I understand you had a genuine question. But I want you to stop and think if rational people would actually post on the interwebz for you information on how to break the law.

I would come to me a meet and maybe ask around you might get a better response that way ... or you can continue on this train wreck which is pretty entertaining by the way

Anyhow guys...to say that at this point we are would be the one of the worlds biggest understatements.

lets let this monstrosity of trash die off.

Thank you to all who posted useful information. I would go back and hit everyone with "thanks"...but that would require sifting through 11 pages of trash.

1. Can't get "ripped off" unless you're stupid enough to use something you don't wish to pay for.
2. What was constructed for 275 million? The current existing HCTRA system?
3. Where does the money come from to pay for salaries, equipment, and maintenance?

I say screw it, shut down and fire every single person in HCTRA, make everything free. lower the gas tax's to 1 cent. And the city/county/state is not allowed to clean, reapir, build or touch in any way, any of the streets.

expand the adpot a highway program to include every street. ( http://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/ge...a-highway.html )

If someone wants a street clean, repaired they must adopt the street for a period of min 3 years. If someone wants to expand or build new they first must get approval from the state, then raise private funds and build. Once built they must turn it over to the adopt a highway program for someone to maintain if they want to. no fees of any sort can be charged for the new roads. all the money raised is just to get it built for the benifit of the comunity as a whole.

275 million huh? Source?

Quote:
On February 26, 2011, construction of the main lanes between U.S. Highway 59 (Eastex Freeway) and U.S. Highway 90 (Crosby Freeway) was completed, thus completing the entire Beltway system.[10] This section was originally set to be completed between 2007 and 2009, but funding issues delayed its completion.[11] The project cost $400 million and was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.[12] The new 13 miles (21 km) section has three lanes in each direction, and an EZ Tag or TxTag will be required to access it. Almost 60 years had passed between the planning of Beltway 8 and the opening of the final section.[2]

The Dallas North Tollway opened in 1968. Guess what, you still have to pay to ride it, so this is nothing new to Texas.

If you have to use a toll road to get to and from work that's poor planning on your part

Yeah at this point it's looking like a typo to pretty much anyone who opens this thing.

Keep going guys, really...You're starting to make people finally realize that the toll roads are losing money. Good job...more importantly, you just pwned some N00b over the internet.

This thread is not even remotely "moto related" anymore

Currently The Hardy is losing money, so the tolls collected on The Sam support it. Let's assume HCTRA is making money. WTF is wrong with that? You buy gasoline don't you? Think the petro industry makes money? Start a thread and cry about that

As to what CraigRR said -- It used to be that tolls were in place until that particular road was paid off. Then they would take out the toll booths and there were no more tolls. But the legislature realized that there was no requirement to stop charging. Now they use the excess funds for general road purposes (not sure just in Houston or elsewhere around the state).

It's bullshit because people here are busting to get to jobs and pay extra for roads. I can't believe how much the tolls are.

The Dallas North Tollway has been charging fees since 1968, so this is not new to Texas

This is my only problem with the tolls. When it started out it was $1 and they keep raising the toll price. I was OK with it at $1 but $1.75 and rising. I find other ways of getting around the city.

Shelnutt you argue too much and sound like a punk kid.
