You don't necessarily need dirt tires. Yes, dirt tires are way way better. I have gone to a few MX tracks with bigger supermotos in the past i.e. husky 610sm, ktm 640sm, and had plenty of fun. Just be mindful about grabbing a fist full of throttle going up the face of a jump - that is a recipe for disaster. It really teaches you throttle and brake control. I was able to clear all the jumps out at White knuckle ranch and buffalo valley mx. I passed a few slow MX bikes out there, and they had knobbies. The secret is staying wide on turns to keep up your momentum on berms. It can be done, and it's fun! If you're on a light mx derived supermoto, you should fair a lot better than riding a street oriented pig like I was on.

What the are u riding that weighs 650lbs??! For what i've experienced on the thursday night rides, yes, it is all very easy off road stuff. There are a few hills that they climb that would be challenging on a 650lb bike with slicks, but if you're running 60/40 tires it should be no problem.

Everything we did off road was done on street tires. The guy with knobbies had it easy!!!!

Yamaha Venture, 1300cc V4 touring bike (naked). I can drop about 120 lbs by removing my ammo can saddle bags and support frame, but like to leave them on when commuting so I have a place to stow all my riding gear. I'd probably have to take off any extra weight I could if I was going to run those tires, and I'm not quite sure yet how the tubes would like alloy rims. I bought the tires to use on a different bike that I've since sold and the rims just happen to be the same size.

Maybe I'll look at picking up a spare set of rims off ebay and try out the dirt tires. I hear there are some decent places off-road around the prison down here (Jester facility, between Alt 90 and 99 outside Sugar Land).

No... just. No.

That's too big and the suspension wont be able to handle the two or three hills they go up. You might be okay in a field or something, but a freakin Venture, no way bro. You are an absolute badass if you put dirt tires on that bike and make it all the way through the ride.

I just ordered a set of wheels to convert the 2011 yz450 to a track Supermoto. Maybe I can tape some lights on it and bring it out for a ride. I did get the Husqvarna back on the street. I just need time off to come out with you guys again.

I also ordered an adapter to mount a caliper off an R6. Should stop okay now too.

Ok sweet I like that answer alot better. Im fat and slow and just moved into the Apts at 45 and 1488 and is easy to close to not go play a little. Plus I was hoping they had some slow guy tracks. Well prob throw some SUMO design tires on before to long also and see if that helps. And im on a 2011 Wr450 so should be to bad.

Try some avon distanzias if you want sumo friendly tires that can still get decent traction offroad

Haha, that's why I asked about "easy" stuff. I just want to play in some dirt and don't really have an "appropriate" bike, but don't mind testing the limits of what I've got. Certainly wouldn't try to jump it, but I'm also not afraid to slide it around and risk dropping it a few times. FWIW, the suspension has been pretty well upgraded with Progressive stuff, but it's still definitely geared toward lower-travel street-type stuff.

You guys have any gopro footage of a ride? I'd like to see what the route is like.

You should be fine. If you arent comfortable riding in some of the areas we ride in you can always just go around or just wait. How wide is it? There certainly some section you might not fit if its wider than a typical dirt bikes handle bars. We had a guy last year ride the trails on a ninja 300 tore that up but he was able to do it.

hahaha

yeah, mine looks a little different than stock right now...

I was in the middle of paring down the wiring when this picture was taken, but it's the closest I have to the current setup (minus giant ammo cans). Also have dirt bike bars on it, which I think are probably the widest part next to the engine guard.

I don't know if you can tell, but I have some affection for the absurd.

I will be running around the downtown area after class at 2:30. I need some parts for the yz450 build. So I will be riding out to get parts.

Holy bro I can't stop laughing at the thought of this thing going offroad! It's hilarious because I can really see one of you goons doing it. Please show up to the ride sometime, we will wait for you. It will be epic

Let me see if I can get ahold of a spare set of rims to get the dirt tires mounted. I've been wanting to do it anyway before the BMOA rally so I would have a better chance in the dirt drags.
