This is super helpful! I really have been considering an FZ-09 as a street bike. The brake fade :(

Thats easily fixable with some new pads and braided line...being the cheapest out that bunch by a long shot I would still consider it....

I ride an SV650S... and as far as I can tell... this is very similar... even with the problems.

I've been wanting both a Triumph and an FZ-09. This did not help.

FZ-09 really is the next SV650, with very similar pluses and minuses, and quite a bit more power. Yamaha is gonna sell the bejesuz out of them.

For those who aren't bothered by the higher price, though, the Triumph is a more refined machine.

Agree + Agree

Some upgraded fork internals and brakes would make that FZ a kickass (and cheap) bike on the street.

Will some of you hurry up and buy them!!!!

...And sell them used at a discount with low mileage a year or 2 later?

Seriously think the FZ09 will be my next commuter, if I can't find a good SV. Then again, pretty sure I'm just gonna ride the Ninja till it wastes away.

Don't forget new forks springs, and at least a slip on (I can't believe they rate bikes HIGHER for being QUIETER.. f that).

Still a steal for under 8k

Yeah, I'm basically shopping a replacement for when (if) my Venture finally dies on me. I'm coming up fast on 100k miles, but there are guys who have torn down the engine without ever having problems (around 150k) to replace cover gaskets and check the wear on the cylinder walls "because they were curious". I'm half-way expecting this thing will go forever and my wife will never have to make good on her bargain to let me get a new bike when it dies.

I have to say though, the longevity of this bike definitely puts a couple extra points in Yamaha's favor, IMO.

Jae - I am sure we could arrange "for a problem" to happen on that bike.

The FZ09 does look interesting, the tq is what grabbed my attention. but that ST3 has a flat curve. My old 675 triumph was a blast...sometime I regret selling it ( along with a few other bikes )
