The best thing to do is ask for the VIN and see if he's stupid enough to give it to you. Run that to see if there's anything record of it being stolen or whatever else it may have on it

except that now all emails sent through the craigslist system use their anonymous addresses, unlike before. unless you email an address listed in the ad directly, you're protected now.
