That was just the first run. It doesnt smoke now, and it sounds pretty good. I might need to get the carbs tuned though. There's a huge flat spot at around 45mph.

Is it a 7" housing or 5-3/4"? I'm kind of wanting to go back to a standard 7" round headlight and wouldn't mind something different, just so long as it lights the road well. The dual 4" setup I've got sucks at night.

it took forever for this to ship, but it seems to be pretty great quality. the inside of the bucket has a lot of room for wires, and all the business for the headlight is very compact. there is a cooling plate and 2 rubber vent tubes and a pigtail with a connector coming out.
my virago is getting rewired completely, so anyone else's installation will probably go smoother.

in other news, i hae abandoned all hope of having the bike ready for my camping trip this week. the bike needs to be more refined, and so do my riding skills, since its been about 2 years since i have actually ridden consistently.
i'm looking into buying a single carb kit for the bike. i think most of my running problems are due to the nature of running 2 old carbs, with an old bike, and old vacuum leaks, and old problems, and old hacks from previous owners. plus, a single carb will be easier to work on. frustration is trying to tune the stock xv750 setup, when it takes about 20 minutes to get the carbs in or out.

thanks, all, for the nice words and such.
in the above video, you can see the bike idling and revving and whatnot. generally, things are looking good, right?
murky, actually. i have various vacuum leaks and other problems that i dont understand, which make the bike run like complete dog .
i just ordered a single carb manifold, so hopefully, these problems will soon be a thing of the past.
i'm also researching a mod where you remove the virago coils, throw them away, and drop in a single accel super coil, which is meant for a harley.

I did some work on the bike yesterday, in preparation for the single carb manifold. The carbs were removed, and holes were taped. I also removed the kickstand switch completely, since it is no longer part of the wire harness. I made sort of a fender to go under the bobber seat. I painted the subframe and luggage rack black. Looks less now. I still want to replace the tail light/turn signals with something smaller and brighter, ideally fitting them inside the frame tubes. I examined my rusted fork caps. The forks are old school air forks, but they don't hold air worth a . So i guess they are more into being springs and probably very nasty oil from 1982. I also installed a speed bleeder brake bleeder and i really need to have a mini rave about how great this thing is. You screw it in place and pump the brake lever and thats all it takes. The first pump shot a small amount of fluid out and the second pump applied braking pressure.

Im hoping the carb manifold guy gets me my product soon, but he says he builds each one individually and test fits them on his virago before shipping. That sounds good to me but daaamn i want to ride.
