AMA... Geico is out...

So sad... apparently Geico is stepping out of the lead sponsorship role for AMA. Even worse, AMA has only 4 pro races confirmed.

From road racers world...

With the economy down for the last 5 plus years there's been less and less money available for sponsorship, whether it be series, classes, teams or individuals.
It's a sign of the times.

That sucks. More of the sport going downhill. I liked watching AMA over MotoGP (2 years ago when you could actually watch AMA on TV)

Really wish the US would get behind motorsports (other than NASCAR) like they do in Europe.

I know how you feel, but even Europe is feeling the pain, from World superbike to Moto GP.

Sucks cause they need a major sponsor, but geico didn't need to be that sponsor anyway. I tried to get insurance from them that would cover me while doing TD's and they said they don't do that type of coverage. How the can they sponsor a racing series, but refuse to right policies that other insurer's will which covers riders on the track.

Yup, GEICO can EAD.

I got a quote for my 1K (just regular old street riding) and THEY WANTED LITERALLY 5X AS MUCH AS STATE FARM for the same coverage!

I told the rep that I was (initially) interested because they sponsored the AMA, I was happy to support that, yada yada, but their asking price was RETARDED.

And this was the schedule that they released today. Pretty slim.

The 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing schedule is as follows:

March 13 - 15 - Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, Fla.
May 30 - June 1 - Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wis.
June 21 - 22 - Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham, Ala.*
July 19 - 20 - Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lexington, Ohio*
September 13 - 14 - New Jersey Motorsports Park, Millville, N.J.*
* - These events will feature the two-day event schedule

A sixth event may be added to the 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing schedule in the coming weeks. Additional details will be released upon confirmation of the event.

Anytime geico is mentioned, I say they might be able to charge less for insurance if they didn't spend so freakin' much on advertising. I don't think I've heard of anyone getting the lowest rate from them.

Maybe this sponsorship is one way they are cutting costs.
